Questions about vitiligo and the sun

Can I go into the sun with my vitiligo?

Doctors advise vitiligo patients not to sunbathe extensively. Vitiligo spots can become sensitive to the sun. If the skin is damaged by burning, this can lead to the development of more spots. Briefly unprotected (max 10 minutes) in the sun is a natural form of light therapy and is not a problem. If you want to be in the sun for more than 10 minutes, apply a high protection factor and/or wear UV-resistant clothing.

Which sunscreen is best to use on my hands?

Vision factor 30 -50 gives good results.

Can sunscreen have an aggravating effect on vitiligo?

Vitiligo.nl is not aware that some sunscreens have an aggravating effect on vitiligo. Vitiligo is provoked in people with a certain predisposition by conditions that damage the skin or substances that can activate an immunological response. However, this does not apply to sunscreens.
