On Wednesday June 25 – World Vitiligo Day – Vitiligo.nl will present the event in Amsterdam Living Canvas – The Art of Vitiligo.
From young to old, about twenty volunteers bring vitiligo to life with classic paintings by Rembrandt and Van Gogh, among others.
In historical costumes they literally show themselves in a context from which they had previously been absent for centuries.
This creates a colorful tableau vivant.

People with vitiligo were not depicted in classical art, simply because they did not fit the prevailing ideal of beauty.
Unfortunately, this absence is not innocent and continues in many places: what we do not see in the media or art or in the culture in which we live, society does not learn to recognize, appreciate or accept. This makes it extra difficult for people with vitiligo to fully embrace themselves – and each other. While visibility is essential for acceptance.

Media attention  
Starring TV personality Mark Baanders as guest of honor Vitiligo.nl at the Amsterdam Noordermarkt for direct visibility to the outside world. Various media were approached and invited to report on the event (internet, television, radio, magazines and newspapers). And of course to talk to our volunteers.

General public
To avoid misunderstandings: this event is not an organized meeting for the members of Vitiligo.nl. The goal is literally to build a bridge to the general public via the media, with an action that attracts attention.
