Live, enjoy and dare..... also with vitiligo!

Being stared at on the street: it happens regularly to people with vitiligo. The condition causes them to develop milky white spots on their skin.
Teacher Marjon Herwijnen from Borger in Drenthe therefore believes that we can learn a lot from children: just ask!

Thursday is World Vitiligo Day to draw attention to the chronic skin condition. And that is necessary, because there is still a lot of ignorance about the striking white spots on the skin. For example, people wrongly think that the disease is contagious, while the predisposition to vitiligo is actually hereditary.

Vitiligo affects an estimated two percent of people in our country, which means that approximately 240,000 Dutch people have the condition. Marjon Herwijnen also has the skin disease, she tells Heart of the Netherlands. “I probably got it from my grandfather, who suffered from psoriasis.”
