Diversity in beauty
British photographer Brock Elbank made an extensive series of portraits of people with vitiligo. With this he wants to show that beauty has many forms.
De Volkskrant (UK) published an overview of 25 portraits of Elbank under the headline 'Diversity in beauty'. According to VK, Elbank has been working on this project for years. He found his models through social media. After the first photos were published, his project became known and more people with vitiligo came forward. They all came to his home studio. In that homely atmosphere he saw an opportunity to put the vitiligo patients at ease, so that they dared to have their portrait taken. For many of them, showing the spots openly was a victory. "Some have not dared to leave the house for years without a thick layer of make-up," says Elbank in the Volkskrant.
Padminie
With this project, Elbank would like to demonstrate that Hollywood and glossy magazines saddle us with a much too limited definition of beauty. There is a lot of diversity in beauty. Among the many people he portrayed is also Padminie Gajadhar from Amersfoort, who is a member of Vitligo.nl and also has striking vitiligo spots on her face. Or actually, the dark spots in her face are the last remnants of her own skin color, otherwise her face turned white. "In fifteen years I have changed from a brown Hindu woman to a white woman," Padminie said last year. newspaper AD. There she also explained what that did to her self-confidence. Nowadays, Padminie can tolerate comments about her appearance better, and she feels like an ambassador of our organization. Vitiligo.nl is proud of that!
Also the television program Show news paid attention to Elbank's photo report. The photographer himself provides commentary and the Dutch Cecilia Zevenhek also speaks. View the item from remaining time 4:33 PM.
