Collaboration with The Hague University of Applied Sciences
For many years, our chairman Paul Monteiro has been a regular speaker in the first semester of the Skin Therapy course at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. The collaboration between the university and Vitiligo.nl will be further intensified in the coming years.
In his lecture, Paul Monteiro takes the students through his experience with vitiligo and the current state of treatment and research. With his wealth of knowledge and experience, he has become a permanent fixture in the first year of the training. Due to this good collaboration, we have been able to hold discussions with The Hague University of Applied Sciences for several months to investigate whether students in their 3rd and 4th year of the Skin Therapy course can carry out a research assignment for Vitiligo.nl. Within this course, students gain knowledge about (abnormalities of) the skin and the body. What is the best way to treat a skin condition? Students can apply medical knowledge in practice and learn how to deal with shame or sadness in your patients. In addition, an important part is the possible improvement of the quality of life of patients.
For their 3e or 4e years of research assignment, Vitiligo.nl has identified various topics in which the efforts of students can make an important contribution to knowledge or gathering information. The topics will have a very diverse character and will be approached from both a literary and practical perspective.
The first research has now been completed and delivered by the students. The topic focused on the possible deficiencies of Vitamin D in vitiligo patients. A good example where both literature and new questionnaires have been deployed. We asked the students to present the results during the members day on June 19. Registration for the members day opens at the beginning of May.
The plan is to have various studies carried out by students of the Skin Therapy course in the coming years.
