Sunday, June 25 was World Vitiligo Day and celebrating Vitiligo.nl with as many people with vitiligo as possible in the Park near the Euromast in Rotterdam.

In Rotterdam, the association, together with all those present, drew attention to the disease burden of vitiligo. Too often, the medical world sees this skin condition as a cosmetic problem. As a result, people with vitiligo may experience insufficient understanding and/or not receive the right help. In addition, many medications are only the result of research into other (skin) diseases, instead of targeted studies into vitiligo itself. Vitiligo.nl thinks things should be different.

Vitiligo ain't no picnic!
That is why we made a statement together on World Vitiligo Day: Vitiligo ain't no picnic! In other words: vitiligo is no fun. Children are sometimes bullied about it and it can cause insecurities, especially during puberty and adolescence. We did this by having a picnic together in the Park near the Euromast. A beautiful and mediagenic place! The association approached various media to draw attention to this with us.

Vitiligo.nl organized the picnic that day. And there was more to do! You could join most parts spontaneously.

What was there to do?

A professional photo shoot where your vitiligo could be visualized.

Demonstration of camouflage techniques
A demonstration of camouflage techniques was given by the Kryolan company, which carries the Dermacolor brand. The brand is very well regarded by beauticians for medical camouflage. The skin color of both the lighter and darker areas is precisely determined.

Graffiti workshop
'Your nicest Graffiti' gave a demonstration. Afterwards you could get started yourself in a workshop. Of course you could take your homemade graffiti artwork home with you.

Outdoor games
There were various outdoor games for young and old: from croquet and kubb to jeu de boules. Playing a game of football? Of course you could!

Barista
Throughout the day you could visit barista Danny from Coffee on Wheels for delicious cappuccino and the best types of tea.
